About the Role

We're building something a little unusual.

Love's Not Zero Sum began with an image that made people stop in their tracks. People saw something different in it, sometimes radically different, and felt something strong. That got us thinking about what happens when we give people more reasons to pause, get curious, talk to one another, and notice the good things happening around them.

Today, we're building a creative social venture around that idea: art that starts conversations, products that create connection, kindness that gets a little more interesting, and simple ways for people to turn caring into action.

We're looking for a Community Spark Builder to help us figure out what happens next.

This isn't a traditional social media job. It's part community builder, part creative strategist, part project wrangler, and part founder's right hand.

You'll help us spot what's working, decide what's worth trying, turn good ideas into real things, and build a community that feels curious, welcoming, intelligent, playful, and genuinely human.

Some days you might respond to a thoughtful comment. Some days you'll shape a new community initiative. Some days you'll take a half-formed idea and figure out how to make it real.

We're looking for someone who enjoys all of that; someone who can ask:

"What if we tried this?"

and then:

"Okay. What would that actually take?"

As we grow, your autonomy, responsibilities, and compensation will grow with us.

What You'll Do

Turn Sparks Into Something Real

• Evaluate and prioritize ideas from the founder, considering resources, timing, potential impact, and feasibility.

• Turn rough ideas into practical experiments, projects, campaigns, and community initiatives.

• Identify opportunities for partnerships, collaborations, events, and unexpected connections.

• Coordinate with the founder and other stakeholders to move projects from "interesting idea" to "it's happening."

• Test, learn, adjust, and try again rather than assuming we have to get everything right the first time.

• Keep track of projects, priorities, and next steps so good ideas don't disappear into the ether.

Help Build the Community

• Help shape a community that is curious without being cynical, kind without being saccharine, and thoughtful without taking itself too seriously.

• Monitor and respond thoughtfully to comments and conversations on Instagram, X (Twitter), Facebook, and other platforms as we grow.

• Help create a tone that welcomes different perspectives while maintaining healthy boundaries.

• Notice recurring questions, themes, tensions, and moments of connection.

• Track sentiment and emerging patterns to help us understand what people are responding to, and why. Analytics experience is welcome but not required.

• Use good judgment about when a conversation is worth joining, when it's worth listening, and when it's best to let something go.

Help Shape What We Become

• Bring ideas for helping people connect with one another, discover opportunities to contribute, and notice the good things already happening around them.

• Help develop initiatives around kindness, everyday heroes, volunteering, gratitude, curiosity, creativity, civic engagement, and critical thinking.

• Look for ways to make participation easy, welcoming, and occasionally unexpected.

• Find the interesting angle, the idea that makes someone stop scrolling and think, "Huh. I like that."

• Pay attention to what people are actually saying and doing, not just what we assume they want.

• Help us build something people want to participate in, not simply something we ask them to support.

Who You Are

We're looking for someone who brings a mix of creativity, judgment, curiosity, and practical follow-through.

Pragmatic Creativity

You generate ideas, but you're equally interested in what happens after the idea.

You naturally ask:

What would this take?

Who would we need?

What's the simplest version we could try?

You don't need everything figured out before you start. You just know that "great idea!" isn't the same thing as "great idea we can actually execute."

Playful Intelligence

You understand that meaningful ideas don't have to sound solemn.

You can find the unexpected angle, the double meaning, or the metaphor that makes something click. You know that sometimes the best way to get someone to care is to make them curious first.

You don't have to be a professional comedian, but you should have a sense of humor, enjoy wordplay, and know when a little weirdness makes an idea more memorable.

Curiosity Without Certainty

You're comfortable saying:

"I don't know."

"That's interesting."

"I hadn't thought about it that way."

"What if we're wrong?"

You can engage respectfully with people whose perspectives differ from your own. You don't need to agree with everyone, but you're genuinely interested in understanding why people see things differently.

You know there's rarely only one way to look at a problem or a person.

Balanced Perspective

You're optimistic without being naïve and realistic without being cynical.

You can hold two ideas at once:

The world has real problems.
And people are still doing wonderful things.

People can be frustrating.
And people are worth understanding.

Small actions won't solve everything.
And small actions still matter.

Civic-Minded Spirit

You care about the world beyond yourself and have a track record of contributing to your community through volunteering, service, organizing, mentoring, helping others, or simply showing up when something needed doing.

Cross-Cultural or Hands-On Perspective

We value people who have experienced life outside their own cultural bubble.

That might come from significant time living abroad, working with communities different from your own, agriculture, sustainability, service, travel, or other hands-on experiences that have taught you there is rarely one "right" way to live, solve a problem, or see the world.

We're especially interested in people who have learned to be comfortable with difference and uncertainty and who have come away more curious rather than more certain.

Behind-the-Scenes Drive

You don't need to be the face of everything. You're happy to make something better without needing credit for it, notice details, follow through, and cheer for someone else's good idea.

Collaborative Independence

You work well with others, communicate clearly, and take initiative.

You can work independently without disappearing, disagree without making it personal, and take direction without needing every step prescribed.

This is an early-stage venture. The founder makes final decisions, but we're looking for someone whose ideas genuinely shape what we do.

Required Skills

• Strong writing skills with the ability to move comfortably between thoughtful, playful, conversational, professional, and concise writing.

• Strong judgment about tone, context, and audience.

• Basic-to-intermediate comfort with AI tools and the ability to learn new tools quickly.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office.

• Comfort using Instagram, Facebook, and X (Twitter).

• Ability to work independently using your own computer and maintain reliable communication.

• Excellent judgment when representing a young brand publicly.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities without losing track of details.

Valued Experience

Experience in any of the following is welcome, but not required:

• Community management or online engagement

• Social media strategy or content development

• Conflict resolution or mediation

• Project coordination

• Event planning or production

• Grassroots initiatives

• Civic or community organizing

• Early-stage startups

• Creative projects or arts organizations

• Volunteer coordination

• Partnerships or relationship building

• Analytics or social listening

• Experience building something from scratch

We're particularly interested in people who have had to make something happen with limited resources.

Schedule & Availability

15–25 hours per week

Core collaboration window: 1–4 PM EST for direct work with the founder.

Flexible engagement: Several hours of availability spread across approximately 10 AM–9 PM EST for community monitoring, responding to conversations, and other work that benefits from being present at different times of day.

This is a remote position. You'll need your own reliable computer and internet connection.

Because this is a community-facing role, we're looking for someone who can be reasonably responsive during agreed-upon engagement windows, not someone who has to be online every minute.

Compensation & Growth

Starting compensation: $28/hour

As Love's Not Zero Sum grows, we expect this role to grow with it.

Increased responsibilities and compensation may include:

• Greater ownership of community strategy

• Managing partnerships and collaborations

• Developing and producing events

• Coordinating volunteers or team members

• Managing additional community channels

• Leading specific initiatives or programs

• Taking on broader operational or strategic responsibilities

We'll conduct formal reviews at 30, 60, and 90 days, followed by quarterly reviews.

This is an early-stage opportunity, and we can't promise a particular title, salary, or timeline in advance. What we can promise is that increased responsibility will be matched with conversations about increased compensation.

Things won't always be perfectly defined. Some ideas will work. Some won't. Some will be much better than expected, and some will need to be abandoned.

We want someone who can try something, learn from it, and move forward without needing everything to be certain first.

We're looking for a strategic thought partner who is also a reliable hands-on executor—someone who naturally asks:

"What if we tried this?"

"What will this take?"

"Who should we connect with?"

and occasionally:

"What if we're making this harder than it needs to be?"

We value curiosity over certainty, substance over performance, and kindness without the clichés.

Most of all, we want someone who believes that people are worth talking to.

Even when they disagree.
